The restored arches will be replicas of the originals. Each will contain 50 light bulbs as in the original design. The new arches will not be placed at intersections but will be anchored at mid-block the length of downtown Flint. Flint Vehicle City arches will be placed at Court and Saginaw Streets and north of the bridge at Saginaw Street and M.L. King Boulevard.
The arches are being replicated through the use of historical photographs and written documentation from newspapers of the era. The arches are part of a streetscape project along Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. Through the project the bricks in Saginaw Street will be repaired. New sidewalks and lampposts will be constructed and trees planted. Foundations for the arches will be installed with the new side walks. Each arch will have 50 lights controlled by photocells and timers. The lights will be adjustable to create different levels of brightness. The steel will be painted using two coats of epoxy paint.
